Emergency Visa

Emergency Procedures

Emergency appointments will only be considered where urgent situations exist.

The German Embassy in Pretoria and the Consulate General in Cape Town may at their own descretion accept your application.
Requests for an emergency or expedited interview appointment should be made through the German Embassy in Pretoria and the Consulate General in Cape Town directly.

Conditions which apply

1. There should be a valid reason for the request. The following list, though not all-encompassing, includes those circumstances that would likely merit favorable consideration:

  • An immediate relative's death, grave illness or life threatening accident. Please supply us with the name, relationship, place and description of the matter; attending physician or funeral home's contact information.
  • An unexpected need to travel for business purposes.
  • An unexpected visit that is of significant cultural, political, journalistic or economic importance.

2. In all emergency cases, the applicant will be expected to bring to the interview any documentation which substantiates the emergency – this in addition to the forms and supporting documents normally required.

3. A lack of planning to obtain the proper visa in advance does not constitute an emergency. The risk of missing a booked flight or other travel arrangement is also no reason for an emergency case.

4. Do not buy your airline ticket before you obtain your visa. Please remember that the granting of an emergency appointment does not guarantee a visa being issued.
